Six Flags has filed for bankruptcy even though the park is doing well and is still profitable. The filing is spurred instead by an inherited debt of $2.4 billion. The company was unable to pay a $320 million payment in August.
The company has another $130 million payment that is due in March. Because it cannot make these payments, it filed Chapter 11 on Saturday. However, they have assured that the parks will still operate safely through the restructuring.
