American Community Newspapers has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company publishes the Plano Star Courier as well as the Stillwater Gazette in Minnesota and various non dailies across four states.

ACN is the seventh newspaper company to file for bankruptcy since December. They plan to reorganize in such a way that frees the newspapers and other properties of debt, making them easier to sell.

District Bankruptcies on the Rise

by Administrator 14. April 2009 05:30

The number of bankruptcy filings in Austin and the district to which it belongs has risen since last year. The Western District, which includes Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, Midland and Waco, had a total of 3,042 bankruptcy filings in the first three months of 2009.

The first quarter of 2009 saw 305 bankruptcy filings in Austin alone. In addition, most of the filings across the district are liquidations rather than reorganizations. Experts believe that this may be the beginning of a more official recession for Texas.

US Pushes for GM to File Bankruptcy

by Administrator 2. April 2009 05:56

The auto task force of the Obama administration has been pushing for General Motors to file bankruptcy. This bankruptcy would split the company into two entities, one of which would contain the unprofitable portions of the company while the other retained the more successful portions.

Currently, GM does not want to enter any form of bankruptcy as it might make consumers uneasy. However, this bankruptcy would likely be very beneficial and may soon become necessary whether GM wants it or not.
