• Before spending any money with your credit card, set a budget for yourself and make sure that you stick to it. Have the right mindset and personal restraint to adhere to your self-set boundaries. If you need encouragement, remind yourself of what will happen if you fail to stay within your budget.
• Make sure you pay off your bills on time. If you properly plan and stick to your budget, then you should always have enough money to make your payments.
• Avoid recklessly using your credit card. Large, impulse buys have the potential to put you well out of your budget. If you do want to purchase a large ticket item, plan ahead and ensure that you can pay it off in a reasonable time frame.
• Get rid of new credit card applications that come in the mail. You won’t be tempted to apply for more, unnecessary credit cards. Always shred these documents to prevent identity theft.
• Stay insured. You never know when a costly tragedy may arise.

If you follow these steps, you should be able to happily remain in a positive financial situation.
